Hamblen County students in Grades 3-8 take the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) Achievement Test each spring. The Achievement Test is a timed, multiple choice assessment that measures skills in Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Student results are reported to parents, teachers and administrators.
TCAP scale scores are converted to state normal curve equivalent (NCE) scores. This conversion provides a way for the TVAAS analyses to measure achievement and academic gain for each district and each school against a consistent metric, expressed in 1998 state NCEs, as students move from grade to grade.
