The Hamblen County Department of Education, using stimulus funds from the U.S. Government, has chosen six Instructional Coaches to work with teachers throughout the district. These positions are for one year after which the program will be reviewed and its effectiveness evaluated.

"The instructional coaches will help teachers fully understand the new state curriculum standards and assisting them in teaching those standards at high levels", said Dr. Brenda Dean, assistant director of schools.

"They will be working with the teachers to develop and refine the use of research-based best practices in instruction, particularly the strategies of the Thoughtful Classroom."

"Some teachers will need assistance in using the new technology that has been purchased with stimulus funds", Dr. Dean explained. "Other areas include assistance with classroom management, identifying resources and facilitating professional learning communities. "

"In essence, their jobs will be to make each of us stronger as teachers", she noted.
